Seniors to hold meeting, have meal

SABATTUS — Sabattus Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Maxwell Gill Hall for a roast pork dinner with all the fixings and dessert. The cost is $6 and reservations are required by calling Pauline at 207-375-4037 by Oct. 25.

Attendees will be able to sign up for the Christmas party on Dec. 6 at C.J. Hall in Lewiston. The price will be $13, which will be due upon sign-up. Those who do not attend the meeting can sign up by calling Pauline and mailing the check.

Paint pumpkins, learn to can food at open house

PARIS — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Oxford County office will host its annual open house from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at 9 Olson Road. The free public event is a chance for the community to meet staff, including Rebecca Long, UMaine Extension agriculture and food systems professional, and Tayla Mann, Extension administrative specialist. Both joined the office this past summer.

In addition to information about programs and services, there will be activities for children and adults, including a canning demonstration, pumpkin painting and fall treats. Kati McDermott, a second-year FoodCorps service member at a local school, will offer taste testing of fall produce.

Christian Science healing speaker

Society to host talk on architecture

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society is hosting a talk on the architectural styles of homes by Linda Griffin of Pleasant River Properties, Windham, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, downstairs at the Anglican Church of the Transfiguration, 64 Elm St. 

Griffin will offer opinions on different aspects of architectural significance of homes in the area.  She will use recent photos taken of homes in town. Residents are welcome to bring in photographs of their homes for dating and identification purposes as well. Refreshments will be served. 

Author to speak to historical society

HEBRON — Author Mary Cowan will speak to the Hebron Historical Society at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23. The talk will be on Cyrus Field’s dream of laying the first telegraph cable connecting the U.S. with Europe. This will be at the Town Office, 351 Paris Road. The public is invited.
