Chad Rogers straddles what is left of the foundation of the old bridge across the canal on Beech Street in Lewiston at the entrance of Simard-Payne Memorial Park on Thursday as he unhooks sheet piles. He was part of a team from Reed & Reed Inc. lifting the giant sheet piles that are driven 20 feet deep into the ground to shore up the earth before excavation and installation of the new bridge footers, electrical and other utilities supplying the area. Beech and Oxford streets in the area are closed. The project is expected to be completed sometime in December. (Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal)
