I am saddened when friends and neighbors complain about Congress, schools, “Augusta,” or the governor. It is important to remember that the public has a say in who is elected or replaced and can make opinions and desires known when elected officials are deliberating.
People filling those positions should possess character and intelligence. Experience and stated positions count, however, the ability to weigh evidence and have discussions, defend beliefs and demand facts is paramount.
Doretta Colburn is such a person. Her issues of quality education at all levels, accessible and affordable health care, environmental stewardship and support of small business are in tune with the needs of District 71. Allocating fiscal resources wisely, rather than blindly cutting, is the way forward, requiring the ability to engage and persuade, not stonewall.
Colburn will go to the state house with energy and heart and work tirelessly for her neighbors in western Maine.
