Why are you running for the Androscoggin County Commission?

My district is special to me, and I have always wanted to serve my community. I was born in Lewiston and raised in Androscoggin County. My family came to Lewiston in the early 1900s from Greece and opened Simones’ Hot Dog Stand, which is located downtown. I am very proud of Lewiston and want to serve the community that has been home to me and my family for over a century. I have an appreciation of the history of the county, as well as skills to continue to advance it in a positive direction.

What skills do you bring to the role of commissioner?

My career background has primarily revolved around public policy on the state and federal level. I have worked in the Maine Senate President’s Office as policy director. My focus was on appropriations, taxation and insurance issues. I also worked in an administrative and legislative capacity from 2006 to 2011 for Sen. Susan Collins’ office in Washington, D.C. My familiarity with the process will be a helpful stepping stone on the county level. Understanding the operation of government is essential in truly making an impact. I am thoughtful in my consideration of proposals and will ask questions to ensure a proper understanding of important issues. I have an understanding of the issues facing small businesses. I am reasonable, thoughtful, positive and motivated.

What is the biggest challenge facing the county, and how would you solve it?

Funding available for our counties is limited, and it should be utilized strategically. It is my plan to help prioritize the needs that exist within Androscoggin County, particularly in my district in Lewiston, and work through decisions accordingly. My background and commitment to the community will serve you well.
