AUBURN — A local man was charged Thursday morning with robbing The Big Apple store on Main Street last week, interim Police Chief Jason Moen said in a news release.

Franklin Dee, 27, was taken into custody after detectives searched his home on High Street. Investigators used evidence left at the scene to connect him to the robbery, Moen said.

Police said Dee is accused of entering the store at 296 Main St. at 6:20 a.m. Oct. 24, demanding money from the clerk, threatening to use a weapon, although none was displayed, and using physical force to obtain an unknown amount of money.

Initial reports said the thief wore a neon green mask.

He is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
