Raymond Christian Smith

1948 – 2017

BANGOR – Raymond (Ray) Christian Smith, 69, passed away at the Ross Manor in Bangor, Maine, with a short and intense struggle with liver cancer. He was born on an Army Base in Koln, Germany on March 31, 1948, the son of Michele and Peter Smith of Everett, Mass.

Ray was an avid New England sports fan. His love for the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins came only second to his commitment to helping others. Ray also enjoyed fishing with family and friends.

Ray tried to take the lessons he learned from his life before recovery to help others. In the past few years Ray embraced God’s love and attempted to share that with others in his life. Ray’s memories of being an Army Infantryman in Vietnam, a working member of the Boston Roofers’ Union, a mechanic, and substance abuse counselor helped to shape his desire to be of service to others throughout his life.

There will be a burial ceremony at the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 at 2 p.m., followed by a dinner at a local restaurant. It is unclear the extent of surviving family for Ray. His friends hope that we will be able to reunite Ray with family, as well as share the wonderful memories we have of Ray.
