WILTON — Selectpersons decided Tuesday to send a letter to the owner of Wilson Lake Country Club concerning unpaid real estate and personal property taxes that now total more than $17,000.

Chairperson Tiffany Maiuri said the town will send a “courtesy letter” to Wilton Golf Holdings LLC “as a friendly reminder of their pledge to do better when it comes to paying taxes.”

The board approved a liquor license application for the country club last spring, with the stipulation it not fall behind on its tax payments, according to Maiuri.

“Historically, they seem to pay personal property taxes when it comes time for liquor license renewal,” Town Manager Rhonda Irish said, “but they always seem to be a year behind on real estate taxes.”

Irish said the company’s personal property tax payment for 2018, which was due Friday, Nov. 2, had not been paid. The company also has not paid any of its real estate taxes for 2017.

“Obviously, they missed the first payment of the 2018 taxes,” Irish said. “Right now they owe $17,217 in taxes.”


The property is not up for foreclosure, she said.

The nine-hole golf course, which has operated at 320 Weld Road since the early 1930s, has closed for the season.

In other matters, the board approved forming a committee to review and update the comprehensive plan. The plan was last updated in 2009, Irish said.

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, which oversees municipal planning, requires comprehensive plans to be approved by voters every 10 years, she said

The committee will include members of the Planning Board and Appeals Board and representatives from the community. Maiuri will also sit on the committee.
