Legion seeks medical equipment

RUMFORD — The Rumford American Legion is seeking medical equipment to distribute to those in need in the community whose insurance will not cover items needed for a safe discharge from a hospital. 

Equipment needs are walkers, rollator walkers, canes, hemi walkers, crutches, hospital beds, commodes, tub benches or tub seats, raised toilet seats, bed railings and wheelchairs. 

Donations may be dropped off at the Legion at 184 Congress St. Legionnaires will also pick up the equipment; call Holly Rivard or Louise Arsenault at Rumford Hospital Physical Therapy at 207-369-1099 to make arrangements for pick up.

Eagles’ Friday Night Mix-Up

RUMFORD — The Rumford Eagles will host a Friday Night Mix-Up from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Nov. 23.

Community members will dance to DJ Nismo. There will be new drink specials every Friday night.

All are welcome; membership is not needed to attend. There will not be a cover charge.

Adult ed to offer pottery class

BETHEL — RSU/SAD No. 44 Adult and Community Education will offer a pottery class to make holiday ornaments.

Using simple cookie cutter shapes and a slab of clay, participants will create five unique ornaments. This project is suitable for adults or parents attending with children older than 8.

The class will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at West Bethel Pottery Studio. Class maximum is 10 students. Cost will be $20 per registration; one parent with one child will be one registration, and additional registrations may be made for a parent with multiple children or for those wishing to make more than five ornaments.

Skeet shooting at fish and game 

WATERFORD — Recreational skeet shooting is held at 1 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. Thursdays at the Waterford Fish & Game Association, Route 118.

The public is welcome and should bring a shotgun and ammo. The cost is $3 a round of 25 targets.

Rumford Senior Center Nickel Bingo

PERU — The Rumford Senior Center is open for sign-ups or other business from 9 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Nickel Bingo is played at the center every Tuesday and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Society to hold annual meeting

STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society’s annual meeting will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Community Building on Main Street. Potluck dinner and a Pig-in-a-Poke auction will follow it. Put something in a brown paper bag for the auction. The public is welcome to the event.

The slate of officers for the year 2019 to be voted on will be as follows: President/Treasurer Mary Henderson, Vice President Lenny Hobbs, Secretary Hazel Hogan and Directors Ken Wing, June Parsons, Alan Burnell and Emerson Dyer.

In an effort to interest more people in joining the society they ask that each member bring a guest.
