Prudence Grant


1942 – 2018


TOPSHAM – Prudence Grant, 76, of Topsham, Maine, passed away peacefully on Saturday Nov. 17, 2018 at The Highlands in Topsham. She was born in Scarborough, Maine on May 25, 1942, the daughter of the late Roger and Priscilla (Clark) Grant.  She was affectionately referred to as “Prudy”.


She graduated from Scarborough High School with the class of 1961. Upon graduation, she attended Bates College in Lewiston where she earned her bachelor’s degree in english.  She then attended the University of Maine in Orono where she earned her master’s degree in education in 1970. She taught in Lisbon School System from 1965-2002 when she retired. During some of those years, she served as The LEA president. After retiring from teaching, she served on The Lisbon School Committee from 2005-2011. Her hometown for all these years was Lisbon Falls. She was a member in many professional education associations. She was a buyer and seller of antiques and collectibles and she enjoyed rug hooking, horse ownership, harness racing, auctions and antiquing. She cared about her community and state and once ran for the state legislature as a Clean Election candidate who wanted to address the high costs of health care. Prudy never married but cared deeply about her students and was a great lover of animals, especially her dear cats and horses whom she loved and cared for.


Prudy is survived by several dear friends and all the students she advocated for during her teaching years.


Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Randall and Robert Grant.

Visitation will be held on Monday at The Crosman Funeral from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at The Funeral Home.  Committal Services will be held at a later date in the spring at Blackpoint Cemetery in Scarborough, Maine. A Service of The Crosman Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Services, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls, Maine.
