Herbert Arthur Duley
1928 – 2018
LEWISTON – Herbert Arthur Duley, 90, of Lewiston, died on Nov. 16, 2018, at the Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1928, in Vienna, the son of Donald L. and Mildred (Kelley) Duley. He attended schools in Vienna and graduated from Farmington High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 through 1952. Herb married Lora Austin on Aug. 1, 1953, in Vienna. He spent the majority of his life in Vienna, Winthrop, Union, and Greene.
Herb was a self-employed lumberman, custodian at Kents Hill High School, and worked for the Maine Department of Transportation. He loved the outdoors and planted large vegetable gardens every year, sharing many vegetables with appreciative neighbors. He also enjoyed going to fairs every summer, especially enjoying horse pulling. Herb was an avid Red Sox fan, along with enjoying The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy.
Herb is survived by his three children: Dorothy King and husband, Darryl of Phoenix, Ariz., Donna Duley and partner Brenda Satrom of Grand Forks, N.D., and David Duley of Portland. He is survived by two grandsons: Robert Duley, Boston, Mass., and Jonathan Duley, Farmington; two nephews, Dennis Webber and wife Julie of Vienna, and their son Daniel of Lewiston; and Donald Webber and wife Laura of Vienna, and his son Lucas of Damariscotta; along with many cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Lora; his parents; sister Marion, and brother-in-law Kenneth Webber.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the nurses and caregivers at Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, in particular Doreen, Laurie, and Cindy. Special thanks to Jenn Stevens who was a wonderful friend to Herb during the eight years he lived at The Meadows in Greene.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Condolences and tributes may be shared with his family on the obituary page of the website at www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com
