BIDDEFORD — Bates rallied to tie Monday’s game against University of New England at halftime, then owned the second half of a 104-84 non-conference men’s basketball victory at Harold Alfond Forum.
The Bobcats (2-2) ended the first half on a 9-2 run to tie the game 49-49. Nick Gilpin made a pair of free throws to knot the score, and Kenny Aruwajoye’s foul shots started the run, with a 3-pointer and layup by Kody Greenhalgh in the middle.
Drake Gavin’s two free throws gave the Nor’easters (1-4) their last lead at 49-47. UNE led by as much as 10 after a layup by Avery DeBrito made it 35-25 with just under seven minutes left in the first half.
Bates broke the game open midway through the second half with a 13-0 run that grew the lead to 83-66. UNE only got as close as 13 points behind after that.
Nick Lynch led all players with 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Jeff Spellman added 19 points and nine boards for the Bobcats, who out-shot UNE 56.2 percent to 30.6 percent.
Drew Muniz paced the Nor’easters with 12 points, while Gavin and Ryan Beatty added 11 apiece.
