MEXICO — Vision screening for students at Mexico and Rumford elementary school has been completed, thanks to two area Lions Clubs.
The Mexico Lions Club, working in conjunction with members of the Jay-Livermore Falls Lions Club, provided the screening through a Welch/Allyn SPOT vision screening machine that detects six eye diseases.
Of the 408 students in grades pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, one, three and five, 39 were referred to eye specialists for further review and treatment.
Students in grades seven and nine will be tested by the Mexico Club in the future. Any schools or groups not contacted yet for a testing date may contact Lion Connie Godfrey, the Jay-Livermore Falls Club vision screening chairwoman, at 207-897-2911.
The Mexico club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Mexico Recreation Center, 15 Recreation Drive. The club mailing address is P.O. Box 141, Mexico, ME 04257.
