FALMOUTH — Ben Lane Robichaud had back-to-back power play goals to close the second and open the third periods as Edward Little skated to a 6-2 victory over Falmouth in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday.
The Red Eddies (1-0) rattled off three first-period goals, including freshman Wesley Clements’ first varsity goal. Edward Little led 4-0 heading into the final frame.
The Yachtsmen (0-1) managed a pair of power play goals to close the game. Charlie Adams collected the puck and roofed it to spoil the shutout at the 7:53 mark.
Goalie Devon D’Auteuil made several big power play stops to earn the win in net for Edward Little.
Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 3, Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill/Leavitt 3, tie
AUBURN — Noah Austin, Ian Struck and Hunter Merryman scored for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse, and Nate Marcotte, Trent Vaillancourt and Reese Collins scored for Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester in a season-opening 3-3 tie on Saturday.
Austin added a pair of assists for Mt. Ararat, and Cade Charron made 34 saves. Xavier Michaud finished with 17 saves for the Kings.
St. Dominic 6, Cheverus 2
PORTLAND — Junior forward William Fletcher scored a hat trick as St. Dom’s dispatched Cheverus 6-2 in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday.
The Saints (1-0) netted four unanswered goals in the second period. Jacob Lewis led off the frame on an assist from Fletcher, while Fletcher secured the second and fourth goals to push the Saints to a 5-1 lead after two.
Jackson Wilson collected a goal and an assist for the Stags (0-1) in the losing effort.
Girls’ hockey
Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland 11, Greely/Gray-New Gloucester 2
PORTLAND — Sophia Venditti scored four goals and had three assists to lead Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland (2-3) over Greely/Gray-New Gloucester (1-4) at Troubh Ice Arena on Saturday.
Nicoletta Coupe added two goals and four assists.
Linnea Koivisto and Anna Rosenthal scored for Greely.
Girls’ basketball
Mountain Valley 62, Dirigo 28
RUMFORD — Rylee Sevigny paced Mountain Valley with 16 points in a 62-28 girls’ basketball victory over Dirigo on Saturday.
Saydie Garbarini had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Falcons. Kierstyn Lyons also finished with 15 points, and Courtney Carrier contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Alexa Varnum led Dirigo with 10 points.
Rangeley 66, North Haven 18
NORTH HAVEN — Brooke Egan and Emily Eastlack each scored 13 points to lead the Lakers to a girls’ basketball win Saturday.
Winnie LaRochelle and Olivia Pye added 12 points apiece for Rangeley (2-0), while Lauren Eastlack chipped in 10.
North Haven (0-2) was led by Layla Sparhawk with 14 points.
