Renovation of Mechanic Falls Municipal Building or replacing it with a new structure were alternatives discussed in preliminary terms Monday evening by the Town Council. Town Manager Dana K. Lee told the council that “maintenance of the currently used building on Lewiston Street was becoming a nightmare,” and that School Union 29 offices, now on the second floor, may soon be relocated elsewhere in town. “If the school offices stay,” Lee said, the building will have to be made handicap accessible. “The Municipal building needs heating and plumbing improvements,” Lee said, “and probably could best be reconditioned by gutting the entire interior.”
