Phillips church community events

PHILLIPS — Christmas outreach by Phillips Community Church begins at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, with an indoor caroling sing-along at Shadagee Housing Community Room, 3 Shadagee Lane. 

Sunday morning church services are at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 23, at the Community House, 31 Main St., with Pastor Susan Tierney.

Christmas Eve services will be at 5 p.m. Dec. 24, at the Phillips Community Church, 2 Sawyer St. Pastor Susan Tierney will lead this service of lessons and carols.

All these events are open to the public.

Christmas Eve service at St Luke’s
 
WILTON — This year’s Christmas Eve service will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 24. It includes a nativity play with the St. Luke’s youth, Holy Communion, music and candlelight.
 
On Sunday, Dec. 30, the church will have a Lessons and Carols service. The Episcopal Church welcomes people wherever they are on their spiritual journey. St. Luke’s is located at 59 High St. at the corner of School and High streets.

Christmas service at Madrid church

MADRID — Reeds Mill Church, 995 Reeds Mill Road, will hold the annual Candlelight Christmas service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The historic, one-room church is the only in Madrid, and its first service was held in December 1892. Folks will gather there for Christmas worship while surrounded by reminders of the past. The church still has its original kerosene lamps and large woodstove. There is no electricity or running water. The Christmas story story will be read and carols will be sung.

Christmas Eve service at Mexico church

MEXICO — The Mexico Congregational Church, United Church of Christ (the “green church”), 163 Main St., will observe Christmas Eve with a service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24. The Christmas narrative will be told in Scripture, music, candlelight and a story for children of all ages.

BETHEL — A candlelight Christmas Eve Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at the Bethel Alliance Church, 251 Walker’s Mills Road. For more information, call 207-824-2289.

LEWISTON — There will be a special candlelight service at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve at the The Calvary United Methodist Church, 59 Sabattus St. This service is free and open to the public.

Christmas Eve service at Sumner church

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will have a candlelight service at 7:30 p.m on Christmas Eve.

The Rev. Howard MacMullen will lead the service of Lessons and Carols with readers, individual music and Communion. The church, at 50 Main St. (Route 219) in East Sumner, is equipped with a stairlift.

Public breakfast at sportsmen’s club

LITCHFIELD — There will be a public breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Litchfield Sportsmen’s Club on Hallowell Road.

On the menu will be pancakes, baked beans, sausage, bacon and a choice of beverage. Cost is $7 per person.

Public Christmas Eve service

WILTON — There will be a public Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at the Wilton United Methodist Church, 600 Main St. All members of the community are invited to attend.

The program will consist of readings from Isaiah, Titus and Luke as well as the singing of Christmas carols.
