Marine Corps League monthly meeting

LEWISTON — Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment 810 will host its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. 

All Marines, FMF Corpsman and Navy chaplains are invited. Anyone interested in Marines Helping Veterans is also invited to attend. The league is always open to new members.

Sabattus Seniors to meet

SABATTUS — The Sabattus Seniors will meet on Thursday, Jan. 3 for spaghetti and meat sauce, tossed salad and dessert lunch.  Reservations or cancellations are required by calling Pauline at 207-375-4037 by Dec. 27.  

If schools are canceled due to snow in Sabattus, the seniors will also be canceled for the month. Cancellations will be posted on Channel 8.

Climb for a Cure to be held

FARMINGTON — This year’s 18th annual Sugarloaf Charity Summit kicks off with the Climb for a Cure on Friday, Dec. 28.

For a suggested donation of just $10, participants hike about one mile up Sugarloaf Mountain to Bullwinkle’s restaurant before descending back down. All proceeds from Charity Summit events benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation, the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center and the Dempsey Centers.

Participants sign up at Guest Services in the Sugarloaf base lodge the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and meet at the SuperQuad at 4:30 p.m. to snowshoe or ski up Tote Road to Bullwinkle’s, where snacks and refreshments will be available. Those taking part in the kickoff event should bring a headlamp or flashlight and plenty of water.

Contradance to be held

OTISFIELD — There will be a family-friendly, community contradance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Community Hall, 292 Route 121.

Singles and new dancers are welcome. Caller Bill Olson will walk people through each dance. Music will be provided by The ’75 Scotty’s and Friends. There will be door prizes.

Post to host Texas hold ’em

LOCKE MILLS — The Jackson-Silver Post 68, 595 Gore Road, will be hosting Texas hold ’em on Saturday, Dec. 29.

Doors open 11 a.m., games begin at 1 p.m. There is a $50 buy-in, high hand option, 50/50 and pull tabs. There will be meals and beverages available.

Christmas Eve candlight service

WATERFORD — The Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at the Waterford Congregational Church on Plummer Hill Road. Everyone is welcome.
