Lisa Karahalios did not come away from the game show circuit a millionaire.

She did, however, walk out $20,000 richer.

The 54-year-old former Lewiston woman appeared Wednesday and Thursday on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” And a few locals were cheering her on.

It is not every day a local appears on one of the most popular game shows in the world, after all.

“There’s only been a small handful of people from Maine,” said Christopher Matthews of Lewiston. “Feels good to see our small corner of the world represented.”

The episodes featuring Karahalios, a 1982 graduate of Lewiston High School, were filmed in September but did not air until this week. Her appearance was carried over from one day to the next.

On the first day, she answered enough questions to climb to $20,000. The following day, she passed on a question she could not answer and walked away with her winnings.

Karahalios, a school teacher in Los Angeles, said she comes back to Lewiston every summer to visit her friends and her 95-year-old uncle, John Karahalios.
