Rumford Police Officer Austin Couture and Dixfield Police Officer Gerald F. Maccione graduated with the 35th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro on Friday. The officers underwent 18 weeks of rigorous academic and physical training, accumulating more than 720 hours. Couture is a graduate of Central Maine Community College and came to Rumford from Jay to fill a vacant utility police officer post. Maccione studied conservation law at Unity College and came to Dixfield from Connecticut. The new officers studied many topics, including crime scene processing, emergency vehicle operation, first aid, traffic and criminal law, domestic violence and sexual assault.
