LEWISTON — A car slammed into a utility pole on Lincoln Street late Thursday, snapping the pole and bringing lines down onto the street.
Police, fire and rescue crews responded to the area, near the boat launch, at about 9:15 p.m., after the pole was reported down and the car that hit it was said to be smoking.
It was believed the driver was not seriously hurt, although paramedics were called to the scene.
Police shut down traffic along a stretch of Lincoln Street as the crash was investigated and cleanup was begun. Central Maine Power was sending a crew to repair the pole.
