BOSTON, Mass. – Girard B. Lambert, 83, of the South Rumford Road in Rumford died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Mass.

He was born in Rumford on June 20, 1935, the son of Alyre and Irene (Leblanc) Lambert, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford class of 1955.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 and then worked for the C.I.A. in Washington, D.C., prior to joining the Rumford Police Department, for over 25 years until retirement as a Sgt.

Girard was a Communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St Athanasuis – St John Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature and going for rides. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Girard was a very caring man and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was married in Rumford on July 29, 1960 to Geraldine O’Leary who died June 14, 2005.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Verschoor and husband, John of Bangor; brothers, Bertrand Lambert and wife, Sylvia of Phillips and Leroy Lambert and wife, Claire of Portland; several nieces and nephews; his special sister-in-law, MaryLou Doyle of Atlanta, Ga.; and his companion of many years, Virginia “Ginny” Perkins of Rumford.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St. John Church, 126 Maine Avenue, Rumford. Interment in the spring will be at St. John Cemetery, Rumford.

Arrangements are under the care of the Meader  &  Son  Funeral  Home, Cremation and Monument Services, 3 Franklin Street, P.O. Box 537, Rumford.
