WEST PARIS — Firefighters quickly extinguished a garage fire at 21 Briggs St. on Monday night, Fire Chief Troy Billings said.
There were no injuries and minimal damage, he said.
“It was a really quick knockdown,” he said. “In another 10 minutes, that would have been a different story.”
The call was received at 5:26 p.m. and firefighters were on scene within four minutes, the chief said. The fire originated from a stovepipe and damage was contained to the siding on the garage.
Billings said the owners of the property were home at the time the fire erupted.
Eleven firefighters from West Paris were joined at the scene by about 40 others from Woodstock, Greenwood, Norway and Paris.
“During the day, you might have to call 12 towns to get 40 guys,” he said. “Tonight, those departments were able to muster 40 guys in no time.”
“It was a very quick response by all, and everyone did a great job,” he said.
