SOUTH PARIS – Rodney Edger Jordan, 88, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at the Maine Veterans Home, South Paris, Feb. 1, 2019. He was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Bethel. The eldest son of Myra Thurlow Jordan and Frank Jordan, of Bryant Pond.

Rodney was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having joined the U.S. Navy in 1947. He saw Japan and served on the aircraft carrier, Flagship USS Philippine Sea.

On New Year’s Eve, 1949, Rodney married the love of his life, Carol Mavis Swan. Their story took place on the Flat Road, in West Bethel, in a home that he built. It was there that they raised their three children.

Rodney drove truck, worked in a logging camp and other jobs before he became a self employed contractor, working at Severance Lodge for over 35 years. His handy work can be seen from the sign hanging at the road, to the hand carved mantels, a birchbark kitchen canoe and the unique railings of porches that wrap each cottage there.

He leaves a lasting legacy as a gifted storyteller. His ability to entertain and make people laugh is well renowned. He could command any room he entered. He will be remembered for his love of sailing, fishing, skiing, the funnies and the Red Sox. Rodney was a lifetime member and a post commander of the American Legion Post # 81.

He is survived by his three children, Sherwood Jordan and his companion, Mitzie Naples of Bethel, Karen Jordan of New Vineyard, Audrey Brooke and husband, Randy Brooke of Newry; brothers Stuart Jordan and wife, Maurine of Westbrook, Tim Jordan and wife, Pam of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Aaron, Eva, Sarah and Stephen Paul, Seneca Corriveau and Amber Brooke; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaiya, Samuel, Benjamin, Walter, Maya, Ava and Lewin.

Rodney was predeceased by his wife, Carol, in 2015; two sisters, Beverly and Nancy, three brothers, David, Wayne and Allan Douglass.

Special thanks to Jennie and the staff at the Maine Veterans Home.  Their love and attentiveness was paramount during the last chapter of his life.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 8, at the Bethel Alliance Church, in Bethel, at 3 p.m. Arrangements by Cliff Gray Cremation & Funeral Services, 60 Andrews Road, Bryant Pond, Maine.
