OXFORD —The Board of Selectmen has given owners whose properties are under foreclosure notice, 90 days to buy back the properties for all taxes, interest and costs in full.

In a motion made by Selectwoman Samantha Hewey and seconded by Ed Knightly, the motion passed on a 4 to 0 vote at the board‘s February 7 meeting. Chairman Floyd Thayer. The motion was made after the board went into a 13 minutes executive session to discuss the matter.

Town Manager Butch Asselin told the Advertiser Democrat that the foreclosures have been handled in the same manner in years passed, but the board needed to approve a motion with proper language included.

Town Clerk Beth Olsen said the properties in question are not due for foreclosure until the end of the business day on March 5.

In other action, the board passed a motion was made by Hewey, seconded by Knightly, on a 4 to 0 vote, to allow the Town Manager to go out to bid for a new highway plow truck.

Asselin reported to the board that roofers and carpenters have completed their work at the transfer station, which had a fire last fall. Painters will be coming in soon to repaint the ceiling and walls in the office. The compactor area will also be painted in the spring.

The board was also informed that the 2019 five-year capital plan has been completed

In other business, selectmen unanimously approved:

  • approved the Casino Operator License Renewal for BB Development DBA Oxford Casino.
  • several abatements including one in the amount of $294 that was approved due to an omission of a homestead exemption; another for $1771 because part of the acreage was sold and recalculated but the change to the record was not accurate.
  • an abatement request for $142 was tabled on a motion by Caldwell Jackson, and seconded by Hewey, while the issue of issuing a supplemental tax bill is researched.
  • an abatement in the amount of $73 because the mobile home was removed prior to commitment. The motion to approve was made by Knightly and seconded by Caldwell Jackson. It passed unanimously.
