LIVERMORE FALLS – Shirley Ann Margaret Forbes Turmel, 86, passed away on Feb. 13, 2019, at Pinnacle Health and Rehabilitation Center in Canton.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1932, in Rumford, the daughter of James and Frances (Lefebvre) Forbes. She was the second oldest of their eight children, Effie, James, William, Carol, Warren, Lelia and Priscilla. An aunt, Marion, joined their family after her parents died and Shirley always thought of her as a sister.

On Nov. 22, 1948, she married Guy N. Turmel and they had two daughters, Ann and Ellen. He predeceased her on Sept. 1, 2001. When her children were in school, Shirley took a surgical technologist course at Thayer-Seton Hospital in Waterville. She then began her career at Franklin Memorial Hospital, working there for about 25 years, and enjoying every moment of it.

Over the years, she belonged to many groups and organizations, with her bridge group being her favorite. They played most Thursdays for almost 45 years. Forever friendships were made. She also attended the Tuesday morning coffee club at the Jay McDonalds. It gave her such joy. She was always quick to say how much she enjoyed her children, grandchildren, extended family, horses, and being a “West Side” kid.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Ellen Bibeau and husband Daniel of Phillips, Ann Nusbaum and husband Harvey of Clermont, Fla.; nine grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Priscilla Pike and Carol Jackson, and brother Warren Forbes.

Graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Livermore Falls later in the spring. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME 04938.
