AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library and the Lewiston/Auburn Senior College have announced their annual “Curious Minds” series.

The two March programs will feature a science-based lecture to be followed by a crafter’s tutorial.

On Tuesday, March 19, at 2 p.m., Senior College instructor Charlie Plummer will present a free seminar, “The Science of Genetic Engineering, the Future of Mankind, and the Source of Human Happiness.”

Plummer will take participants on a guided look at some of the experiments that have been carried out in the field of genetic engineering and the impact they may have on the future of natural selection and humankind. He will also examine the sources that may or may not lead to human happiness. Data shows that the self-care/self-help trend has bloomed into a $10 billion annual industry.

On Tuesday, March 26, at 2 p.m., instructor Nancy Duplisea will present “The Art of Making Greeting Cards.” Duplisea will review the basic steps of card-making. She will display several of her favorite examples. Beginners or experienced card-makers are welcome.

Industry statistics estimate that the greeting card business is a $7.5 billion worldwide enterprise and the average person sends 55 cards a year. Discover how to add a personal touch to family milestones through unique, custom-made cards.
