Air Force veteran Joe Voisine, left, of Lewiston breaks out in laughter Friday after fellow veteran Merrill Kelley of Oxford, right, tells a story about a mutual friend. Kelley was in the Marines and Air Force, and finished his career in the National Guard in South Portland. According to Kelley, their friend was promoted to NCO while they were in South Portland and took over the historical record-keeping, but being from Lewiston, he wrote the way spoke: half in French and half in English. When an inspector came to look at the records he was completely baffled, Kelley said. The Auburn Exchange Club hosted the free meal at the Green Ladle for the 8th year in a row to honor the service of veterans. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal Buy this Photo
