Loring Danforth of Lewiston watches a flock of Barrow’s goldeneye and Common goldeneye ducks Monday morning as they mingle in the Androscoggin River. He used his spotting scope on the Lewiston riverbank between the Lown Peace Bridge and the walking trestle where many species can be spotted, especially in winter when many waterways are frozen. There are dozens of places in Lewiston and Auburn where many bird species can be spotted, including peregrine falcons that often perch in cupolas and steeples.
