DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just wanted you to know that I had wonderful results from my Sun Spots request regarding my search for Lucien Dagneau (Feb. 11 Sun Spots). About 8 a.m. on the day that my question appeared in the paper, I got a call from Lou’s son’s wife and we talked for about half an hour. After I hung up, a lady from Nevada called and said she knew the family and I told her that I had talked to Lou’s son’s wife and thanked her for calling. I must have gotten about a dozen calls that day.

In the late afternoon, I got a call from Lou’s daughter, saying she was going to be in Florida until the end of the month for her job and that if I gave her my nephew’s phone number she would call him and make arrangements to get Lou’s things so he wouldn’t have to mail them. I talked to my nephew today and they are going to meet at the end of the month just before Lou’s daughter comes back to Maine.

I also want you to know that I got a call from a “lost friend” and we will get together as soon as it’s safe to meet. I want to thank you again and tell you how wonderfully Sun Spots works. — Ilene, no town

ANSWER: I am so happy for you, Ilene! Things couldn’t have worked out better. I give you all the credit because you knew to reach out through Sun Spots. I’m sure you feel so good about getting Lou’s belongings to the family and I hope you can meet up with that “lost friend” very soon. Be safe and stay well.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Have you heard if and when AARP will be doing taxes for seniors this year?  Thanks for all you do. — Lorraine, Lewiston

ANSWER: According to the organization’s website, it doesn’t look like AARP will be assisting with in-person tax filing in your area this year. You can go to the web site, https://taxaide.aarpfoundation.org/   and get virtual help. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax assistance to anyone free of charge with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low to moderate income.

Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code. There is an online form to request assistance or you can send an email to taxaide@aarp.org. On the website, it says someone will get back to you within five business days.

If your income was less than $57,000 this year, you may want to consider having CA$H Maine help you with your taxes. For more information, and to fill out the questionnaire to schedule an appointment, go to cashmaine.org.  A volunteer will call to schedule a Scan & Go appointment where you will drop off your documents at the designated location and have them scanned. Your taxes will then be completed virtually by an IRS tax law certified volunteer.

CDC guidelines will be adhered to at the scanning location, and everyone must wear a face mask to enter.
