Maynard J. Murphy

RUMFORD – Maynard J. Murphy, 87, died Monday Feb. 22, 2021 at his home in South Rumford after a courageous battle with ALS.He was born in Rumford, Jan. 22, 1934, a son of Lester and Florence (Sanborn) Murphy, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford class of 1953.Maynard worked at Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford retiring from the shipping department after 29 years in November of 1995. He was a life member, past second vice president and presently serving on the board of director of LeParesseux Snowshoe Club in Rumford where he was an active volunteer in helping to prepare and serve suppers, working at club functions, Beano and parades. He was also a member of the Boise Cascade Paper Company 25 Year Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed camping, traveling, riding his motorcycle, watching and feeding the birds, and going for his daily walks. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed helping and doing for others. He enjoyed his summers at the Snowshoe Club’s “Leo Buster Jolin Campground” at Worthley Pond which he managed from 1995 to 2010. He was also a courtesy boat inspector for the Worthley Pond Association. He enjoyed spending time on vacations with friends in P.E.I., Canada for many years.Maynard is survived by his wife, Anita of South Rumford; two sons, Scott W. Murphy of Weymouth, Mass., Maynard Murphy II and wife Debra of Cape Elizabeth, four daughters, Florence Welch and husband Scott of Jay, Brenda of Londonderry, N.H. , Mary Ellen Harrison and husband Tom of Mexico, and Lesa Nadeau and husband Paul of Windham; stepson, Michael Jenkins of Mexico; sister, Marlene Horne of Scarborough; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
