LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus, the designated Area Agency on Aging serving Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties, is seeking new members for its advisory council.
The council is a requirement under the Older Americans Act and is responsible for advising on issues concerning older adults and Older Americans Act programs. The council serves as the “eyes and ears” of local older people and their caregivers; represents the interest of older persons; identifies gaps in services to older persons and provides recommendations for corrective action; reviews and comments on policies, programs and actions that affect older people; acts in an advisory capacity, not a governing capacity; and may have opportunities to communicate with local, state and federally elected officials, make community presentations and provide testimony at public hearings.
The council meets five times a year, and members must live in one of the three counties served by SeniorsPlus. Meetings are currently held via Zoom.
If interested in learning more and joining the Advisory Council, contact Heather Davis, chief operating officer, at [email protected] or 207-795-4010.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
