DEAR SUN SPOTS: Oxford County residents, here is a chance to give back to the community with a minimal time commitment and a flexible schedule. The American Red Cross needs additional volunteers to serve as blood donor ambassadors at local blood drives in Oxford County. These ambassadors welcome donors, screen their temperatures, and put out snacks for them at the canteen. Interested volunteers will be asked to watch a short online video and be given additional training.

If you are interested in becoming a local blood donor ambassador for the Red Cross, follow the link below to sign up. Someone from the Red Cross will contact you for follow-up. If you have questions, contact Erica Fuller at 1-802-735-8842 or at erica.fuller4@redcross.org.  There is more information at

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing to see if anyone can help make my brother-in- law’s 50th birthday the best birthday ever.

My mother- in-law passed away in late October 2020 and my husband and I gained guardianship of him early this year. He’s a Boston sports fan and we want to make his 50th birthday in early June a huge success! Until we’re all vaccinated, we understand that with COVID-19 restrictions, it may make his ability to see a sporting event an issue, but I was wondering if there is the opportunity for him to Zoom or to receive birthday wishes from any Boston sports team players. If anyone can offer any suggestions to help us make his birthday a success in this way, it would be greatly appreciated! — Shannon, no town

ANSWER: If any readers have had luck arranging something like Shannon wants to do for her brother-in-law, please write in. These professional team players receive thousands of requests of this sort, but if you have an “in,” perhaps you will share it.

Meanwhile, here’s the contact information for the four major sports teams. My suggestion would be to write to these teams and explain your brother-in-law’s circumstances and special day.
