Anyone looking to attend either the Lewiston or Edward Little high school junior-senior proms will find these social events under the big top.

Both events will be held at Lewiston High School, with the Red Eddies holding theirs on Friday, May 14, followed by the Blue Devils’ prom on Saturday, May 15, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

What makes these occasions special is they will be held under a large open-air, rented tent, with Lewiston’s event being billed as “A Night Under the Stars.” COVID-19 protocols will be in place during the prom.

The idea to hold outdoor proms came from the prom committee, which did a lot of brainstorming to see the two events come to fruition.

“It was just trying to figure out how we could make a bad situation into something positive because last year obviously we didn’t have a prom at all,” Lewiston High School Principal Kirsten Crafts said. “I think it was Jason Fuller who had figured out how to get this big, huge tent and he just started pre-planning with Edward Little. They met a few times and came up with a proposal.

“So we are doing the prom here and doing it for EL as well, obviously at different times. I am happy we can give (the students) something. I know last year when we shut down we were trying to think what could we do for them. By July, it still didn’t get better so we never had a prom last year.”

There will be music, decorations and an area for pictures and food. Masks must be worn and social distancing must be maintained when students are not dancing.
