Robert J. Davis

AUBURN – Robert J. Davis, 91, of Auburn passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2021.

He was born in Omaha, Nev., to Margaret (Homan) Davis and Harry Cleve Davis on Oct. 26, 1929. He married his love, Ruth Marie (Cinnamon) Davis on May 16, 1953, in Laramie, Wyo. He graduated both undergraduate and graduate studies from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

He worked as an astrophysicist for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory/Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., for his entire working career. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Navy as a Lieutenant JG. He was an active member of Park Avenue Congregational Church in Arlington, Mass., and more recently an active member of the Faith Bible Chapel in Buckfield.

Robert is preceded in death by his precious wife Ruth, and his beloved son, Paul Davis.

Robert is survived by daughters, Carolyn (Davis) Hargis and husband Norm Hargis, Deborah (Davis) Mossberg and husband Tom Mossberg, Elizabeth Davis, daughter-in-law, Debbie Anne Learson, niece Stephanie (Davis) Carey and husband Mark Carey, grandchildren Michelle (Mossberg) Campbell and husband Vern Campbell, David Mossberg and wife Isel (Saenz) Mossberg, Matthew Mossberg, Heather (Hargis) Robinson and husband Derek Robinson, Megan (Hargis) Dugas and husband Nathan Dugas, Katie (Davis) Vogel and husband Jake Vogel, and Naomi Learson. Great grandchildren include Arika Fulton, Evon Mossberg, Ezekiel Mossberg, Lexi Robinson, Zoey Robinson, Lincoln Robinson, Rand Dugas, Landon Dugas, and Emma Dugas.

Robert was surrounded by much love from family and friends. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks for the supportive and loving care provided by Androscoggin Home Healthcare & Hospice, Elite Homecare, and the folks at Schooner Estates where Robert was a resident for the past 10 years.

Visitation will be held at Fortin\Auburn from 4-7 p.m., on Friday May 21, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday May 22, 2021 at Faith Bible Chapel located at 388 Bryant Road, Buckfield, Maine 04220, with Mr. Chuck Kraske officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
