NEWRY — Newry’s annual town meeting will once again be at the Newry Grange hall, with a start time of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25.

Town Administrator Amy Bernard said if all money articles are approved, this year’s budget will be $1,187,256, which is down from last year’s budget of $1,213,164. Bernard added that the biggest changes are in the tax map budget, which is up approximately $20,000, the fire department budget up $10,000 and the administration budget, which is up about $7,500.

Woodstock Town Manager Vern Maxfield will moderate the meeting.

Articles

A few of the articles residents will vote on include:

Article 12: Raise and appropriate $190,000 for highways and bridges.

Article 13: Raise and appropriate $140,000 for capital improvement.

Article 17: Raise and appropriate $89,180 for operation and maintenance of the fire department.

Article 18: Raise and appropriate $170,000 for sanitation to pay all fees and membership charges for Tri-Town Solid Waste.

Voting will also happen on June 8, where residents will vote for a selectperson, to amend the town’s planning board ordinance and to amend the town’s ordinance on shore land zoning. Residents will also vote for SAD 44 board members and on the SAD 44 budget. Absentee ballots are now available at the town office.

Running for the open seats on the board are residents Mandy Berry, Randall Akers and Dave Bartlett. Bartlett took over for Selectman Jim Largess in December following his resignation the previous month.
