DEAR SUN SPOTS:  Once again, I’m crowdsourcing for a potential story for publication in the Sun Journal.

This time I want to know about the dad in your life.

Dads — just like moms — play a special role in our lives. For example, among other things, my dad taught me how to balance a paper cup full of water perfectly on the top of an open door; how to cook (and flip) a giant hamburger over a campfire; how to yodel; and how to sing the Hank Williams song “You’re Cheatin’ Heart” in a lonesome, twangy cowboy voice.

Most importantly, dad taught me how to tell a really good story.

Tell me what your dad has taught you, whether it’s useful or just fun. Send your thoughts and your phone number (in case we have questions) to writer Karen Schneider at  iwrite33@comcast.net by June 1.

Please include you and your dad’s first and last names, your towns and a bit of background about your dad if you’re inspired. A good digital photo of your dad — or you and your dad together — would be great to have. If we get enough submissions, the story will run on Father’s Day! — Karen, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the question about mini-class reunions at Taber’s (May 17 Sun Spots), we hope to get these going again by July 5, and are considering options. When a decision is made, it will be announced on our Facebook page and in the Sun Journal. — Don, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: If a homeowner has brown tail moth caterpillar nest(s) on their property, is there any government agency to call to report the infestation and/or receive assistance in destroying the nests? Nests high in trees are out of reach for most homeowners and these caterpillars cause so many problems for people and the trees, that allowing them to propagate is not in anyone’s best interests. — Janet, no town

ANSWER: Brown tail moth is a big problem in our state and many people suffer with allergic reactions to these critters that include rashes and impaired breathing issues so this is classified as a health issue. Please call 211. Staff will connect you to resources to locate arborists in your area who will cut the branches holding the nests and/or spray or inject chemicals that kill these pests.

Unfortunately, these treatments cannot be performed until at least August when the caterpillars/moths are considered to be inactive again. The folks at 211 can give you some guidance.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On May 7, I went to the Ace Hardware Store on Upper Sabattus Street to pick up a few items. When I got to the cash register, I realized I was $13.40 short. Needless to say, I was embarrassed. Another employee asked what was going on and I said I would put the items aside and come back later for them.

He reached into his wallet and paid the balance, saying, “We’ve all had a tough few months.” He wanted me to know there are still good people around by lifting my spirits and giving me a blessing. I cried all the way home and will pay it forward. — Denise, no town
