Area roundup: Oxford Hills girls lacrosse tops Lewiston in overtime

PARIS — Oxford Hills edged Lewiston 11-10 in overtime in KVAC girls lacrosse action Friday.

Kaitee Hallee scored four goals and assisted on three others in the win for the Vikings (7-1), and Celia Melanson and Olivia Orlando each scored two goals.

Charlotte Gastonguay scored four goals and assisted on three others for the Blue Devils (5-3). Brie Dube also notched four goals, while Shauna LeBlanc finished with two for the Lewiston.

BASEBALL
DIRIGO 21, CARRABEC 11: The Cougars (6-3) scored in bunches throughout their contest with the Cobras (1-7) in Dixfield on Friday.

Derek Ducharme and Kota Tompkins each notched three hits, with Tompkins tallying two doubles and also pitching and earning the win for Dirigo.

Carrabec’s Luke Carey came in to pitch in relief and also notched four hits to lead all hitters Friday.

EDWARD LITTLE 10, LEAVITT 4: The Red Eddies (7-4) lost the lead in the top of the third inning and regained it in the bottom of the third and then held on to down the Hornets (4-8) in Auburn.

After Edward Little scored three in the first to jump out to an early lead, Leavitt scored four in the top of the third to take a 4-3 advantage. EL responded with three runs in its half of the third, and then added three more runs in the fifth.

Kamden Masselli scored three runs and notched a triple for the Red Eddies, while Colin Merritt drove in three runs. Alex Avila earned the win on the mound in relief.

Leavitt’s Brogan McCormick took the loss.

MADISON 5, TELSTAR 2: The Bulldogs (2-6) rode their starting pitcher the entire game en route to a victory over the Rebels (4-7) in Bethel.

Bryce Willette went the full seven innings, striking out nine batters and walking just three in the win for Madison. Willette also singled twice and drove in two runs, while his teammate Quin Cornfurth contributed a single and a double.

Telstar’s Cain Shatzer struck out seven batters in the loss. He also singled three times at the plate.

MONMOUTH 8, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 2: The Mustangs (9-1) took the lead in the first inning and never looked back in their win over the Phoenix (1-4) in Monmouth.

Monmouth scored twice in the bottom of the first. Hayden Fletcher and Cam Armstrong notched two hits apiece in the win for Monmouth Academy, while the Mustangs used three pitchers, including Armstrong.

Isaac Parker singled twice and took the loss on the mound for Spruce Mountain.

OAK HILL 10, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0: The Raiders blanked the Falcons in five innings in Wales.

Jackson Arbour pitched all five innings for Oak Hill, allowing four hits while striking out four and walking three batters. Isaac Morissette doubled, drove in two runs and scored two runs for the Raiders. Sam Lindsay also scored two runs.

Kyler Heinzen went 2-for-2 for Mountain Valley.

EDWARD LITTLE 11, LEAVITT 1: The Red Eddies (5-6) started slow but finished strong in their win over the Hornets (5-6) in Auburn.

Hannah Smith struck out 10 batters from the circle in the win for Edward Little. She also tallied four hits to lead all batters. Maddie Emmert helped out with three hits of her own for the Eddies, while also driving in two runs and scoring two runs.

Leavitt’s Paige Demascio hit a double and Sam Withee hit a single and drove in the Hornets’ lone run.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER SWEEPS POLAND: Winning pitcher Madison Pelletier singled on a 2-2 count to drive home the winning run in the seventh inning as the Patriots (10-3) won 5-4 in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Knights (5-4) at Gray.

Maisie Lerette and Anna Gilbert each had two hits for Gray-New Gloucester.

Gilbert then got three more hits in Game 2 and Pelletier drove in three runs with a triple and a single, pacing the Patriots to an 8-2 win.

OXFORD HILLS 12, BANGOR 0: The Vikings (8-2) pounced on the Rams in the opening inning and controlled the rest of the game to earn a big win in Paris.

Kiara McLeod, Bella DeVivo and Trinity Bernarad each hit a double and a single for Oxford Hills, which plated three runs in the first inning and later scored five in the third to put away Bangor.

Bangor’s Lane Baffon took the loss.

RANGELEY SWEEPS TEMPLE: The Lakers (4-2) got in a lot of offense in their two five-inning wins in Rangeley.

In a 25-6 win in the opener, Rangeley scored nine runs in the first inning, followed by six runs in each of the next two innings and four in the fourth. Bree Quimby took the win in the circle and also was one of four batters to record multiple hits.

Temple scored five in the second inning, its highest-scoring inning of the game.

In the second game, which the Lakers won 18-3, Winnie Larochelle pitched and earned the win while also notching multiple hits. After scoring six runs in the top of the first, the Lakers scored two but were answered with four in the second.
