DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts plans to open its juried show, “Land and Sea,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29.
This will be a modified reception without the customary food and drink, but the event will be the gallery’s first public reception since its move to 36 Elm St.
Laurel Dodge is the new gallery manager for River Arts in Damariscotta.
The exhibition, selected by contemporary artist Jane Dahmen, presents striking landscapes and seascapes in a wide range of media. Works include pieces inspired from nature and interpreted personally by each artist, embracing all aspects of expression from realism through abstraction and even a bit of whimsy.
From a large variety of work by 132 submitting artists, Dahmen chose 97 pieces by 82 artists. “Land and Sea” is to run until July 3.
After operating for several years as an all-volunteer organization, River Arts plans to introduce a new gallery manager, Laurel Dodge. A naturalist and artist, Dodge offers glimpses into the hidden beauty of nature through her photography.
Receiving her BA from Bowdoin College and MS from Antioch University, she was a naturalist instructor at the zoo in Brooklyn, New York, and several nature centers. She has written and illustrated a how-to book on teaching children about nature and has offered workshops on how to keep a naturalist’s sketchbook. She has volunteered with River Arts since its move downtown.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
