Athletes from 16 teams competed in the Western Maine Conference track and field championships on Saturday afternoon at Lake Region High School. Saturday’s meet is the final tuneup for the state championship meets that will take place on Saturday, June 5.
The York boys and girls swept the Division 1 titles, and Poland won both Division 2 titles.
In the girls’ meet, the Wildcats won eight events and scored 181.5 points to finish in front of Greely (103), Cape Elizabeth (88), Gray-New Gloucester (66.5), Freeport (62), Yarmouth (30), Lake Region (22) and Fryeburg Academy (13) in Division 1. In Division 2, Poland finished with 145 points and was followed by North Yarmouth Academy/Maine Coast Waldorf (117), Sacopee Valley (59), Wells (55), St. Dom’s (28), Traip Academy (26) and Old Orchard Beach (17).
In the boys’ meet, York won nine events and scored 199 points, beating Greely (119), Cape Elizabeth (62), Gray-New Gloucester (59), Yarmouth (57), Freeport (53), Lake Region (17) and Fryeburg (14). Poland edged Sacopee Valley in Division 2, 139-132. Traip (69), Old Orchard Beach (64), NYA/MCW (59), Wells (50), Waynflete (30) and St. Dom’s (12) rounded out the scoring.
