James M. McDonough Jr.

LEWISTON – James M. McDonough Jr., 92, formerly of 1095 Minot Avenue, Auburn, and most recently of Montello Heights in Lewiston, died Monday, May 24, 2021. Born in Lewiston on July 5, 1928, he was the son of James Sr. and Alice Lalonde McDonough. Upon his mother’s passing, he was raised by James and his wife, Theresa Chippendale McDonough. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of ‘47. Jim served in the U.S. Army, and then returned to Maine and met the love of his life, the former Elaine “Bo” Aucoin. They married in Greenville on July 3, 1954, and made their home in Auburn. Elaine passed away on March 24, 2017. He worked in the shoe industry before becoming a route salesman for the Jayson Caron Company out of Portland. He later worked for Pine State Trading Company, and after retiring kept busy by making deliveries for the Medicine Shoppe, doing woodworking, fishing and following his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also volunteered at CMMC for 26 years, starting in 1993.

A member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Penley and husband William of Scarborough, three sons, Timothy and wife Claire of Auburn, Mark and wife Susan of Saco, and Robert and wife Linda of Lewiston, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all who affectionately called him “Bampa”.

Visitation will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home on Friday, June 4, from 9-10:30 a.m.,, followed at 11 a.m., by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
