Frances A. DeFilipp
MEXICO – Mrs. Frances A. DeFilipp, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday May 28, 2021, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor.
Born in Mexico, Maine, on Aug. 10, 1925, Frances was a daughter of Frank and Inez (Brann) Andrews. When she was 8-years-old, she moved into her home on River Road in Mexico and lived there for 83 years.
Frances was a graduate of Mexico High School class of 1942, attended Bliss Business College in Lewiston, and took courses at the University of Maine in Farmington. She worked as an office typist for the Oxford Paper Company from 1943-1948. Frances was married in Rumford, on June 15, 1944, to Vito DeFilipp. In 1967 she worked at Mexico Junior High School as a teacher and library aid, and, in 1981 took the job of librarian for the Mexico Public Library, where she worked until her retirement in 1993.
Frances was a member and past president of the Mexico Mother’s Club, member of the American Legion Aux, Gorizia Lodge #467, and Mexico Garden Club. She had a passion for researching and documenting her family genealogy, enjoyed traveling with Vito, gardening, walking, wood refinishing, bowling, and knitting, and especially loved spending time with her family and lifelong friends.
Frances lived her life to the fullest. She was an avid reader, remarkable story-teller, and loyal friend, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a quick wit, a good hand at cribbage, and a charming smile, and a generosity that was felt by her friends, family, and community. She loved deeply and was loved by many. She remains with us through the memories of all who knew her.
Frances is survived by her daughter Joanne Alex and her husband Joseph of Old Town; sons, Richard and his partner, Karen Raucci, of Portland and Peter of Mexico; six grandchildren: Jennifer DeFilipp, Jessica Keenan, Joel Alex, Julianna Alex, Michelle Jarvis, and Christopher DeFilipp; and five great-grandchildren: Annalise and Jasper Keenan and Quinn, Charlotte, and Piper Jarvis.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Vito, two sons, Chris and Timothy, her sister, Elaine Stein and her brother, William “Bill” Andrews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday June 12, 2021, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Interment will be in St John Cemetery in Rumford. Friends and family are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 6-8 p.m.
