Roland H. Beaulieu
LEWISTON – Roland H. Beaulieu, 90, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Lewiston-Auburn, the son of Rose Lajoie and Joseph Beaulieu. He attended St Joseph’s School in Lewiston and graduated from Edward Little High School, class of ’49 in Auburn. In June 1951, he married Rita Ratte and they settled in Lewiston where they raised three children and were active members at St. Joseph Church.
Roland earned high school letters in three sports and played baseball in the Twin City League. He served in the Marine Corp, 1st Marines, George Company where he saw action at Boulder City during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean, U.N. and National Service Defense Medals and the Purple Heart. Following his discharge from active duty, Roland graduated with an accounting degree from Bentley College in 1957. For forty years, he was employed with Eastern Distributors in Lewiston.
An active participant in community work, he organized the expansion of Elliott Baseball League and coached for many years. He was a member of the Lewiston Elks Club, the VFW, and served on St Joseph’s School Board. He was a passionate New England sports fan. His interests included playing golf, attending to his flower gardens, playing cribbage and pinochle, collecting coins, storytelling, and enjoying home-cooked meals.
He is survived by his beloved wife Rita of 70 years, his son, David and daughter-in-law Bonnie of Avon, Conn., and their sons, Ben and Zach; daughter, Susan and son-in-law John Tuttle of Lewiston and their daughters, Kim Tuttle and Sara Berube and daughter, Diane Lewis of Epping, N.H. and her children, Jessie Kreger, Jennifer Fitzgerald and Paul Chiarantona. And he is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Logan and Laney, Hudson and Gracie, Cullen and Sylvie and Roland.
Visitation, will be held from 4-7 p.m., on Thursday June 3, at Albert Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday June 4, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 67 Frost Hill Ave, Lisbon Falls. Burial services will be conducted privately with family.
