RICHMOND — The driver of a pickup truck that crashed Friday morning into a Front Street house in Richmond was expected to be charged with operating under the influence of drugs and possibly other charges, according to police.
Richmond police said driver Krista Shockley, 29, of Augusta and her 37-year-old male passenger in the GMC pickup were taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with injuries not considered life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
Sgt. Christopher Giles said Shockley was expected to be charged with operating under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a scheduled drug, which police believed to be heroin. Giles said Friday the alleged drug had not been tested yet for confirmation.
The crash at 370 Front St. was apparently the second crash within a few minutes involving the white pickup truck. While details of the other incident were not available Friday, Giles said just before the crash on Front Street was reported at about 10:30 a.m., another caller had reported a hit-and-run accident nearby that police said involved the same vehicle.
Giles said the pickup left the scene of the first crash, which reportedly caused no injuries.
The crash into the house shut down both lanes of Front Street, also known as state Route 24. The road was reopened later Friday morning.
Neighbors on Front Street reported hearing a loud crash and then seeing the pickup truck, which was smoking in the front yard of the house.
Police were unable to say Friday morning who owns the house damaged in the crash.
One corner of the house appeared to be badly damaged, with broken siding and framing visible and damage to a window.
From that corner, the truck appeared to continue alongside the house, causing damage to the siding and taking out landscaping, before coming to a stop on the lawn.
