WILTON — Wilton announced its 2021 summer programming at Kineowatha Park will return to a semblance of normalcy with less modifications for social-distancing than last year.

We’re back somewhere near what we would have done in the past,” said Recreation Director Frank Donald. “We’ve had to tweak it a little bit but a whole lot more than we offered last summer. We’ve got a fair amount happening.”

The Wilton Recreation Department will host two, two-week sessions for co-ed basketball, girls field hockey, co-ed tennis, and co-ed soccer. All of the camps will be for children entering grades three through six except for basketball, which will additionally host a camp for grades seven and eight. Two camps will be offered for tennis for both ages six through ten and 11 through 14.

Donald said that because the camps are outside, the program will not require participants to wear masks.

“Unless things tighten back up, restrictions wise, it’s fairly open,” Donald said. “We’ll likely have hand sanitizer available. All of them camps are going to be outdoors camps. I think we’re pretty much going to be back to normal, do what people have been accustomed to in the past.”

The Wilton Recreation Department will also be offering modified swimming lessons via the Red Cross program. However, the rec department is not offering swim courses for ages younger than seven, as the lower level courses (one through three) require instructors to be in the water with the kids. Levels four through six allow for instructors to teach kids from the docks.

There is also free access to a disc golf course at Kineowatha. The creator of the course is also offering free, beginner disc-golf lessons on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Wilton Recreation Department is doing their “major sign-up” for the summer camps and swimming lessons 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, and Thursday, June 17. While availability at the swimming lessons is more limited, Donald says they will “probably” be able to accommodate kids interested in participating in the camps “right up to the same week the camp takes place.”
