100 Years Ago: 1921

All committees are hustling and have practically completed their respective schedules for the American Legion celebration, July 4. Not only are the Legionnaires interested, but all of the townspeople have their shoulders to the wheel determined to make it the most successful event in Western Maine. The day will start off with a street parade. Already a long line of floats being subscribed and several granges and orders yet to report. Dixfield band and the 3rd Maine Infantry band of Rumford will hold forth during the day.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Much of the steel framework for Auburn’s new highway garage on Gracelawn Road has been completed, and workmen are continuing that phase of construction. Kenneth Marshall, assistant superintendent of the Auburn Highway Department, said most of the first floor of the $608,000 structure. to be known as the Woodbury  Brackett Garage, is up. The municipal garage is named for the retired city manager.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Jeannie Chilles Tracy, age 91, of Machias looks for names of members of her 1926 graduating class while registering for the annual University of Maine at Farmington Alumni Weekend on Saturday. Joining her in looking over materials are Jolene Lake Adams, registrar from Wilton, and Susan Wales, of the alumni office staff.
