Juliette “Julie” L. Ouellette

LEWISTON – Juliette “Julie” L. Ouellette, 87, of Lewiston, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, the result of an auto accident.

Born on July 2, 1933, during the Great Depression, she was the last remaining of six children of Arthur and Rose (Turcotte) Gilbert Sr. Julie was a lifelong resident of Lewiston having attended Holy Cross School and then graduating from Lewiston High School class of 1953, being the first in her family to do so.

On April 23, 1960, she married Raymond R. Ouellette. Together they had many common threads such as a strong work ethic, taking care of family, and a spirit to share what they had from their time, their home, and many meals that she was prepared to make at any time. Over 61 years they created many memories and provided a wonderful home to their sons Thomas and Steven.

Although she had many occupations through the years, her greatest contribution was being a mom and a homemaker. She kept an immaculate home, hosted many family gatherings, became an outstanding cook, and had beautiful penmanship that shined on each card or letter she sent. Julie and Ray always believed that you do not wait for others in life. As such, she was always open to an adventure and loved to be out and about. They enjoyed early years together at family camps on Sabattus Pond, many camping trips and sporting events of their sons.

She loved to travel, whether a day trip with family or friends or extended trips to Florida, California and all the way to Paris. She enjoyed the easiness of big band music, sounds of casinos, and always looked forward to her weekly card game and luncheon with “the girls”. In her mid-40s she attained both her real estate license and her motorcycle license! She had great pride and joy in the accomplishments of her sons and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; her son, Tom and wife Audrey of Sabattus, her son, Steve and wife Jamie of Lewiston; her four grandchildren, Megan, Jack, Gisele and Timothee; along with her great-granddaughter, Ella; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings Arthur Gilbert Jr., Jeannine Daigneault, Liane Burpee, Bert Gilbert, and Laurier “Uncle Larry” Gilbert; and by her great-grandson, Parker Doucette.

Visitation will be held Sunday June 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pinette Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway, Lewiston.

A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Juliette’s life will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday July 19 at Holy Cross Church. Burial to follow 12 p.m. Monday July 19 at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
