Organization of a new drum and bugle corps in Lewiston for youngsters in the Twin Cities area was announced Sunday night by Bert Dutil. The authorization was given by the board of directors of Pine Tree Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps and Color Guard and the new corps, Dutil said, will be the Pine Warriors Junior Drum and Bugle Corps and Color Guard. The junior corps, Dutil said, will be for boys and girls 10 through 15 years old inclusive and those becoming members of the new corps will learn to play a piston, bugle or a drum or be assigned to the color guard how to carry and handle a flag, rifle or sabre. In past years many young people have wanted to join the senior corps but have been unable to do so because of age and this was one of the reasons for the decision to start the junior corps.

When 18 year-old Seth Vincent, of Mechanic Falls left here today to start a six-month stint as a missionary in Zimbabwe, he took with him a very special gift from his graduating classmates at St. Dominic Regional High School in Lewiston. It was a surprise, he said, when classmate Katie Wilson, also of Mechanic Falls, called him to the stage on graduation night. Vincent was given a check for $1,000 which had been accumulated by the graduating seniors for a class trip to New York City. The two had been classmates since kindergarten at Elm Street School. He said that when the presentation was made she told him, “We believe in what you are doing and we want to help you.” I didn’t know why they decided not to go.” said Vincent, “and I did not understand it until I got the gift. His reaction? “I was shocked,” he said. But he knew what he’d do with the money. “I’ll use it to buy medical supplies and things like that. He said that having this money will do more good for more people. Vincent is the son of Charles and Laura Vincent of Oak St., in Mechanic Falls, and his trip to Zimbabwe is not his first missionary effort.
