FARMINGTON — Phase I of the High Street reconstruction project will begin in August and continue through part of November.

“The start date for the project is Aug. 16 with substantial completion by Nov. 14,” Town Manager Richard Davis wrote in a recent email.

E.L. Vining & Son of Farmington in the contractor. Its bid of $927,729 was the lower of two.

Included in the plans are installing decorative streetlights, creating a bus lane in front of the University of Maine-Farmington gym, improving parking and installing speed tables.

Phase I includes the section of High Street from Broadway/Perham to South Street.

A section is within the Downtown tax increment financing district from Broadway almost to Academy Street and on the other side from Perham to Middle Street, Davis noted when discussing the project with selectmen in October.

“In that short section, I’d like to propose we add some decorative streetlights as we have on Front Street,” he said then. Main Street would be bookended by Front and High streets, keeping a consistent theme, he said.

Phase II, from South Street to Route 2, is scheduled for spring 2022, Davis said.

The project is eligible for the Maine Department of Transportation Municipal Partnership Initiative. It will fund half the costs.
