A committee is currently working on plans for the United Fund’s second annual Oxford Plains Speedway Racing event, which is scheduled for a Saturday in August, the exact date to be announced later. About 20 local drivers are expected to take part. The racers will pay fees in multiples of five dollars, in the order they finish, with the winner paying nothing. Chairman Richard St. Hilaire said “this is strictly an amateur race and the committee reserves the right to refuse any would-be driver who has competed professionally.” Entrants will be accepted by the United Fund on a first come, first served basis. Last year seven had to be turned away due to the limited amount of cars available. Members of the committee are St. Hilaire, Jan Lavenger, Hansen Ray, Robert Quinton, Robert Nagle and Irving Bell.
