GREENWOOD – Barbara Louise Wakefield passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on July 23, 2021.
She was born in Locke Mills on April 26, 1932, the daughter of the late Marion L. Pratt and Harry Z. Swan Sr. and attended local schools. Barbara worked for Ekco Wood Products/Gilbert Manufacturing primarily making knife handles and retired from the mill after just over 40 years. She was known for her kind and loving spirit.
Barbara married Kenneth E. Wakefield on Oct. 9, 1948. She was a proud member of the Locke Mills Union Church and of the Ladies Circle. She was also a longtime member of the Locke Mills American Legion Post #68 Auxiliary. Some of her other hobbies included motorcycling, crafting, sewing, quilting, and she was an avid newspaper clipper. She was also a longtime member of the Greenstock Snow Sports Snowmobile Club.
Barbara will leave behind a legacy of love and generosity, always thinking of those around her. After her retirement, she enjoyed her time with family and friends. She also took pride in her home, spending time decorating and entertaining.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Kenneth in 2009.
She is survived by her son, Richard and his companion, Jacqui, grandson, Clinton and his wife Melissa, grandson, Grayson and his wife Renee, as well as five great-grandchildren; Timothy, Matthew, Gracie, Sophie and Brady.
The family would like to sincerely thank the entire team of caretakers from Elite, as well as the Beacon Hospice staff, who made it possible to honor Barbara’s wishes to keep her comfortable at home.
