LEWISTON — Two drivers escaped with minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after pickup trucks collided on Sabattus Street, sending one of them flipping into a yard.

The wreck across the street from Bourque’s Market was reported at 4:20 p.m. and brought police, fire and rescue crews from all directions.

According to police, Kaileb Turcotte, 31, of Auburn was driving on Sabattus Street and turning onto Genest Street when his Ford F-150 was T-boned by another Ford pickup driven by Alec McBean of Wilton.

Turcotte’s truck flipped after the impact, a witness said, and rolled into the front yard of a three-story apartment house at 641 Sabattus St., sending a tool box, animal cages and ladders sailing out of the truck’s bed. The truck came to rest on its side.

As gasoline poured from the underside of the overturned truck, firefighters scrambled to free Turcotte from the overturned truck. He was conscious, alert and able to walk on his own once he was out of the truck, a witness said.

He was later taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center to be examined for minor injuries.

McBean, who had been driving a truck owned by Spencer Group Paving of Turner, did not appear seriously hurt, although the front end of his vehicle was badly damaged in the wreck.

Police and fire crews shut down a portion of Sabattus Street along with at least one nearby side street. Sabattus Street was limited to one lane of travel while the scene was being cleared and police began their investigation.
